Military Base History

Brussels Leased Installation was established to provide critical support for U.S. military and NATO operations in Belgium. Its original mission focused on administrative, logistical, and community services for American personnel stationed in the region, especially those assigned to NATO headquarters in Brussels.
During the Cold War, the installation played a vital role as a hub for U.S. Army Europe. It supported both military readiness and diplomatic missions, adapting its facilities to meet evolving operational needs, such as communications, housing, and morale services.
Key units stationed at Brussels Leased Installation have included elements of the U.S. Army Garrison Benelux and support detachments for NATO. The installation has not been directly involved in combat operations but has served as a strategic rear area, supporting deployments and contingency planning during major conflicts.
Today, Brussels Leased Installation continues to serve as a logistical and administrative center for U.S. personnel in Belgium. It supports the local American community and strengthens U.S.-NATO relations. The installation has retained its original name and has not undergone significant official name changes since its establishment.

PCS & Relocation Essentials
With a large portion of military moves requiring the involvement of packers and movers, it’s the Army Transportation Office’s job to ensure standards are being met.
Preparing for your PCS to Brussels Leased Installation begins with receiving official orders. Once you have your orders, connect with the base Transportation Office to discuss your move options. You can choose to ship your Household Goods (HHG) through a government-contracted mover or conduct a Personally Procured Move (PPM), also known as a DITY move, where you handle the move yourself and may be reimbursed. Use the Defense Personal Property System (DPS) at move.mil to schedule and track your shipment. This system is required for all DoD moves and helps you manage key documents and timelines.
Service members are eligible for key entitlements during a PCS. Temporary Lodging Expense (TLE) helps cover housing costs while you transition, and Dislocation Allowance (DLA) helps offset miscellaneous moving expenses. Review your entitlements on the official DoD travel website and keep receipts for all expenses. For Brussels Leased Installation, coordinate closely with your sponsor and the base support office to ensure smooth in-processing and access to local resources.
