Camp Walker opened in 1950 during the early Korean War, serving as a key support hub for United Nations and U.S. forces in southeastern Korea.
The base quickly became a vital node for medical, supply, and command operations as fighting intensified across the peninsula.
Throughout the Cold War, Camp Walker expanded its facilities to meet growing U.S. military commitments in the region.
New barracks, administrative buildings, and support infrastructure were constructed to accommodate rotating Army units and enhance operational readiness.
The base became home to key elements such as the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command and medical units, reinforcing its logistics and healthcare role.
During the post-Cold War era, Camp Walker adapted to evolving security needs while continuing to support U.S. Forces Korea (USFK).
The base provided critical logistics, family support, and medical services to U.S. personnel and their families.
Camp Walker also played a role in community relations with the local Daegu population, fostering positive ties and cooperation.
Today, Camp Walker remains a central installation for U.S. Army operations in southern Korea.
It houses command, support, and medical units, including the Brian Allgood Army Community Hospital.
The base has retained its name since its founding, honoring its namesake and supporting the U.S.-ROK alliance and regional stability.

Arriving at Camp Walker starts with receiving official PCS orders. Next, contact your local Transportation Office to schedule your move and discuss shipment options. The two main move types are Household Goods (HHG) shipment, where the government arranges movers, and Personally Procured Move (PPM), also called DITY, where you move your own items and may receive reimbursement. Use the Defense Personal Property System (DPS) at move.mil to manage your move, track shipments, and upload documents. DPS is your main hub for move coordination and updates.
You may be eligible for Temporary Lodging Expense (TLE) reimbursement, which covers some hotel costs while you secure housing, and Dislocation Allowance (DLA), a one-time payment to help with moving costs.
