Daegu Air Base, also called K-2 Air Base, was established during the Korean War to support United Nations and Republic of Korea (ROK) military operations. Its original mission provided a forward operating location for combat aircraft and logistical support in southeastern Korea.

In the early 1950s, the base underwent rapid construction and expansion as U.S. Air Force engineers upgraded runways and facilities for jet aircraft. Over the decades, Daegu Air Base hosted key units such as the 51st Fighter Wing and the 8th Fighter Wing, both vital to air defense and tactical operations.

Throughout the Cold War, Daegu Air Base remained a strategic hub for U.S. and ROK air operations. The base supported joint exercises, readiness missions, and regional deterrence, and also served as a critical logistics and evacuation point during tense periods on the Korean Peninsula.

Today, Daegu Air Base continues to support U.S. and ROK Air Force operations, focusing on air defense, rapid deployment, and humanitarian missions. The base plays a key role in the U.S.-ROK alliance and contributes to regional stability.

Since its establishment, Daegu Air Base (K-2) has retained its name, with no significant official name changes recorded.
