Military Base History

USAG Daegu acts as a vital logistics and support hub for U.S. Army forces in South Korea. Established after World War II, its original mission centered on supporting post-war occupation and rebuilding efforts.

Over the years, the installation expanded to meet the needs of the U.S.-ROK alliance. Growth accelerated during the Korean War and continued through the tense Cold War years.

Key construction phases occurred in the 1950s and 1960s as the base grew to accommodate more personnel and advanced logistics operations. Major units, such as the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command and the 403rd Army Field Support Brigade, have called USAG Daegu home.

The installation’s enduring role in supply and readiness reflects its importance to both U.S. and allied operations. Its facilities and units support a wide range of military activities.

During the Korean War, USAG Daegu supported combat operations and maintained supply lines to the front. In the decades since, it has adapted to changing strategic needs.

The base evolved into a modern garrison that supports joint and combined operations. Its flexibility has allowed it to remain relevant through shifting military priorities.

Today, USAG Daegu serves as a cornerstone of the U.S. military presence in southern South Korea. It provides essential services to U.S. and allied forces and supports regional stability.

The installation fosters strong ties with the local Korean community. Since its establishment, USAG Daegu has operated under the same designation without significant official name changes.

PCS & Relocation Essentials

With a large portion of military moves requiring the involvement of packers and movers, it’s the Army Transportation Office’s job to ensure standards are being met.

PCS to USAG Daegu begins once you receive official orders. Contact your local Transportation Office to set up your move and start the process in the Defense Personal Property System (DPS). Choose between a Household Goods (HHG) shipment, where professionals pack and ship your items, or a Personally Procured Move (PPM), where you handle the move and may receive reimbursement. Each option has pros and cons—compare carefully based on your needs.

You are entitled to several benefits during your PCS. Temporary Lodging Expense (TLE) helps cover short-term lodging costs as you transition, while Dislocation Allowance (DLA) assists with out-of-pocket moving expenses. Use DPS to track shipments, schedule pickups, and manage claims. For USAG Daegu, coordinate closely with the Transportation Office for customs paperwork and in-processing requirements. Review all entitlements and ensure you keep receipts and important documents for reimbursement.
