Construction Battalion Center (CBC) Gulfport was established in 1942 to support the U.S. Navy’s need for construction and logistics during World War II. Its original mission was to train and stage Naval Construction Battalions, known as Seabees, for deployment to the Pacific theater.
The base’s strategic location on the Gulf Coast allowed for rapid movement of personnel and equipment overseas. This positioning gave the Navy a crucial advantage in supporting operations across the Pacific.
During World War II, CBC Gulfport expanded rapidly, adding barracks, training facilities, and supply depots. The base played a key role in preparing thousands of Seabees for combat construction missions.
CBC Gulfport supported Allied advances across the Pacific by ensuring Seabees were ready for deployment. After the war, the base was briefly deactivated but reactivated during the Korean War to meet renewed military construction demands.
Throughout the Cold War, CBC Gulfport evolved into a major logistics and training hub for Navy construction forces. The base supported operations in Vietnam and later in the Middle East, adapting its mission to meet changing military needs.
Significant units stationed at CBC Gulfport have included Naval Mobile Construction Battalions (NMCBs) and other Seabee units. These groups contributed to the base’s reputation as a center for construction excellence.
Today, CBC Gulfport remains a vital part of the Navy’s infrastructure. It supports Seabee training, logistics, and deployment, and serves as home to several tenant commands.
The base also plays a key role in disaster response and recovery along the Gulf Coast. There have been no major official name changes; it has consistently been known as Construction Battalion Center Gulfport or CBC Gulfport since its establishment.

When you receive PCS orders to CBC Gulfport, your first steps should be to review your orders and contact the base Transportation Office. Use the Defense Personal Property System (DPS) to arrange your move and track shipments. You can choose between a Household Goods (HHG) shipment, where the government arranges movers, or a Personally Procured Move (PPM/DITY), where you handle the move and may be reimbursed. Each method has unique benefits, so compare options based on your needs. Entitlements like Temporary Lodging Expense (TLE) and Dislocation Allowance (DLA) help offset costs during your move. TLE covers short-term lodging as you transition, while DLA helps with miscellaneous relocation expenses. Plan early, as Gulfport is a busy hub and summer is peak PCS season. Use DPS to schedule, monitor, and manage your move from start to finish. This system is required for all official moves and provides essential tools for claims and tracking.
