Base History & Name

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Mr. Felix Perez, a civilian instructor assigned to Navy Service Support Advanced Training Command (NSSATC), is awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal by Lt. John Lillyblad, NSSATC Site Lead at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Corry Station, March 20, 2025, after his...

Corry Station began as Corry Field in 1923, serving as a training site for naval aviators. The base was named after Lieutenant Commander William M. Corry Jr., a Medal of Honor recipient.

Its original mission focused on advanced flight training for Navy and Marine Corps pilots, supporting the growing needs of naval aviation in the interwar period.

During World War II, Corry Field expanded rapidly, training thousands of aviators for combat. The base played a crucial role in preparing pilots for carrier operations and anti-submarine warfare.

After the war, the demand for pilot training decreased, and the base's mission shifted to meet new military needs.

In 1958, Corry Field was redesignated as Naval Communications Training Center Corry Field, reflecting its new focus on communications and cryptologic training. The installation became a hub for Navy and joint-service personnel learning signals intelligence, electronic warfare, and cyber operations.

This transition marked the base's evolution from aviation to information warfare, setting the stage for its modern role.

Today, Corry Station is officially known as Information Warfare Training Command Corry Station. It remains a critical center for training Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and allied personnel in cyber, cryptology, and information operations.

The base supports the Pensacola community and plays a vital role in preparing the military for modern digital threats. The installation's name has changed several times, reflecting its shifting missions—from Corry Field to Naval Communications Training Center, and now to Information Warfare Training Command Corry Station.

PCS & Relocation Essentials

Because peak permanent change of station moving season is upon us, it is advisable if you already have your PCS orders to schedule you household packing and shipment with transportation and personal property, said Connie Silk, Army Community Service. Currently on Fort Campbell there could be a four- to six-week delay to get an appointment. (U.S. Army)

When you receive PCS orders to Corry Station, start by reviewing your official orders and contacting the base Transportation Office. Use the Defense Personal Property System (DPS) at move.mil to schedule your move and track shipments. Most choose between a Household Goods (HHG) move, where the government arranges movers, or a Personally Procured Move (PPM/DITY), where you handle the move and may receive reimbursement. Both options require detailed planning and documentation.

You may be eligible for key entitlements like Temporary Lodging Expense (TLE) to help cover hotel costs while you secure housing, and Dislocation Allowance (DLA) to offset out-of-pocket moving expenses. TLE is typically authorized for up to 10 days at Corry Station. Use the official DoD Per Diem and Allowance site to confirm your rates. Early coordination with the Transportation Office and using DPS streamlines your move and helps avoid delays.

Housing Options

Military members stationed at Corry Station in Pensacola, FL, typically find a mix of housing options. On-base privatized housing is limited and primarily serves families and those with long-term assignments. Most single sailors and students rely on community rentals in the Pensacola area. The Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) here generally covers a wide range of rental options. For 2025, the BAH for an E-5 with dependents is about $1,833 per month. Use our BAH Calculator to estimate your specific rate. Demand can be high during PCS season, so waitlists for on-base homes are common. Off-base, the cost of living is reasonable compared to other Florida regions, but waterfront and newer homes command higher rents.
