Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB) Albany was established in 1952 as a key logistics and supply hub for the U.S. Marine Corps. Its original mission centered on storage, maintenance, and distribution of military equipment and supplies.
The base supported Marine units across the eastern United States and abroad, ensuring they received essential resources. This role made MCLB Albany vital to military readiness during its early years.
Construction began in the early 1950s, and the base expanded rapidly to meet Cold War demands. New warehouses, maintenance facilities, and administrative buildings were added in the 1960s and 1970s.
These additions allowed the base to handle more complex supply chains and equipment. The growth positioned MCLB Albany as a leader in military logistics operations.
Over the decades, MCLB Albany has hosted several major units, including the Marine Corps Logistics Command and Maintenance Center Albany. These units have played vital roles in supporting Marine operations during conflicts such as the Vietnam War, Gulf War, and the Global War on Terrorism.
Today, MCLB Albany remains a cornerstone of Marine Corps logistics. It provides advanced maintenance, supply, and distribution services for Marine forces worldwide.
The base also supports local economic development and partners with the Albany community. Notably, the installation has retained its original name since its establishment, with no significant official name changes.

PCS & Relocation Essentials
A moving truck is unloaded as a family moves into their new home. The "Making the Right Move" workshop assists service members and their families by informing them of what to expect at their next duty station and how to prepare for their travels.
Arriving at MCLB Albany starts with receiving official PCS orders. Contact the base Transportation Office as soon as you have orders. Early contact helps you secure your preferred move dates and ensures you understand the process. The two main move types are Household Goods (HHG) shipment and Personally Procured Move (PPM), also called DITY. With HHG, the government arranges movers. With PPM, you handle the move yourself and may get reimbursed. Both options require you to use the Defense Personal Property System (DPS) to set up and track your move. DPS is your online hub for scheduling, documentation, and claims. Use it to upload orders, manage inventory, and check shipment status.
