Naval Station Everett was established to provide a modern, strategically located homeport for the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Northwest. The base was conceived during the late Cold War to enhance fleet readiness and support naval operations along the West Coast.
Its location in Everett, Washington, offered deep-water access and proximity to key Pacific routes. This made it an ideal site for supporting naval activities in the region.
Construction began in the late 1980s and continued into the early 1990s, with the base officially opening in 1994. The facility was designed with state-of-the-art piers, support buildings, and family services.
The base has not undergone any significant official name changes since its establishment. Its infrastructure reflects a new era of Navy planning and community support.
Naval Station Everett has hosted a variety of major surface combatants, including guided-missile destroyers and frigates. These vessels have played key roles in regional and national defense.
Notably, the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, was homeported here from 1996 to 2012. This marked a significant period in the base's operational history.
During the post-Cold War era and into the 21st century, the base has played a key role in supporting Pacific Fleet operations, humanitarian missions, and regional security efforts.
Today, Naval Station Everett remains a vital installation, supporting both active-duty and reserve units. It also serves as a major economic and community anchor in the Puget Sound region.

The first step in the move out process is letting Campbell Crossing staff know of the impending move as soon as possible and filling out a notice to vacate form, said Karsten Haake, Lendlease project director for the Campbell Crossing community. Campbell Crossing is preparing for a 20-30% spike in turnover as permanent change of station, or PCS, season begins.
